Mental Health Services
It is our goal to help our clients achieve this balance in a safe, comfortable, and relaxing environment. Services that we offer to help you include: AssessmentThe first step to getting help is to call to schedule and assessment. An initial assessment is essential to determine the needs of the client. Congruent Counseling Services utilizes a structured interview to assess the needs of the client. While the initial assessment sets the direction for initial counseling, assessment is an ongoing part of counseling. It is essential to be open and honest during your assessment. If you are concerned about confidentiality, talk with your assessor during the assessment. As a therapist and client learn more about each other, a reassessment or turn of direction is important. Don't be surprised if a therapist or counselor comes up with a different diagnosis or idea than another therapist or doctor. It is very common for different professionals to attribute different perspectives to an issue. If this happens to you, discuss it with your therapists or doctor. Sometimes people fit in more than one place. More than one perspective is often helpful to resolve most issues. Congruent accepts a broad range of insurances. Each therapist is licensed in the State of Maryland and is individually credentialed with most insurance companies. Call us to find out who is in your network. Individual and Couples CounselingCongruent Counseling Services has many licensed therapists and Certified Counselors on staff with a variety of experience and expertise. While all of our therapists have experience in a wide variety of areas, most of them have Our Counselors assist with Marriage Counseling,Depression, Anxiety, Personality disorders, Trauma, Self Esteem, ADHD, Infertility, as well as many other issues and needs. Child or Adolescent CounselingAll therapists are trained to work with adults. It takes a special person, with a love for children, with specialized experience to work with children and teens. Therapists who work with young children need to be able to work in expressive forms of therapy that do not require extensive insight or communication skills such as art, drawing, or play therapy. Working with teens requires an understanding of the unique perspectives teens hold. Teens are on thecusp of adulthood without the benefit of experience and often without the insight and maturity neededto make worldly decisions. They still need the help of adults even if they don't feel they do. Patience and unconditional positive regard are the gifts of the child and adolescent therapist! Family CounselingNothing is more important than family. A child's first conception of how the world works and how to live in the world is learned from family interactions. Children learn from and model parental behavior. As children develop, peers may become more and more important. However, it is the family that will be there to support children as they grow and learn to negotiate peer relations. When a family system is not working, it affects every aspect of a person's life – for both parents and children. Our therapists know the benefits of family counseling and how to help families negotiate healthy interactions. Families may choose to do only family counseling alone or some members of the family may also see an individual therapist. Let us know how we can help! Parental CounselingMany of our parents find it helpful to have someone to consult – a parent guide (since you didn't get one when the children were born). Having a separate counselor for parents to consult can help them break difficult patterns that may not be helping their child. For example, a counselor for the parents may help to develop an appropriate behavioral plan or set appropriate limits for a child who is not following rules. This may be especially helpful for parents of kids with behavior problems in school or at home or with children abusing substances. Congruent Counseling has the experience to help you help your children better! Group CounselingGroup Counseling can be the most effective way to address many issues. It can also yield the fastest change. It takes specialized experience and training to effectively lead groups. To help every member in the group make change requires exceptional skills! Every counselor who leads a group at Congruent Counseling is an exceptional group leader. The Director, Mark Donovan, LCPC, LCADC, has been leading groups, and training group leaders, for over 18 years. See the Group Services that we offer under the Group Services link or Click Here. Dual Diagnosis CounselingThree of our therapists are licensed as both as mental health counselors and addictions counselors. Three others have extensive experience working with both mental health and addictions. We know that many clients may have multiple concerns. It is our belief that these issues are not completely separate and should not be treated separately. For example, if a client is addicted to alcohol and has depression, if the person continues to be depressed, it is hard to find the resolve to achieve sobriety. Similarly, if the person continues their pattern of use their self esteem will continue to suffer and the depression will be more difficult to address. Both issues must be addressed at the same time. We can help do just that.
